TZFM201 Spring Week 2 - achitecture

2.16 - An architecture photography experiment
Peak House, Sidmouth - a photo taken for a local news article highlighting the town's history and achitecture

Going against my usual preference, I had to photograph this building at midday (editorial deadlines). Fortunately, it was a partially cloudy day with fairly diffuse lighting. By taking the photo with the sun to the left the building is well lit with shadows that aren't too long because of the time of day, but still apparent and just enough to give the building definition and interest. I opted for a low angle with a wide 24mm lens to accentuate the steps and the lion statue to break up what would otherwise be a large negative space of lawn if taken from higher up. Selecting a narrow (f14) aperture, the picture is sharp and defined. The steps add some interest and balances the composition, creating an interesting zigzag shape running from the foreground to the house. The pink flowers and blue sky adds some colourful highlights.
